Wicked: For Good is based on Act II of the Broadway musical Wicked (2003), with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. The musical itself is adapted from Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which is a revisionist prequel to L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz. But the movie follows the musical’s storyline and character arcs rather than the darker, more political narrative of Maguire’s book.

What happens in Wicked: For Good?
Wicked: For Good runs parallel to the events of The Wizard of Oz, only it reframes the story to show that Elphaba isn’t actually out to hurt Dorothy — she merely wants her late sister’s enchanted shoes back. The misunderstanding comes directly from the Wizard and Madame Morrible, whose propaganda machine is working overtime to position Elphaba as the villain of Oz. Meanwhile, Glinda is relishing in newfound political power and does nothing to help her exiled friend — at least not at first.
Wicked: For Good is currently available to watch in theaters only. It premiered Nov. 21, 2025.
Is Wicked Part 2 streaming?
The movie is not yet available to stream, but if it follows the same pattern as its predecessor — which it’s likely to do — it’ll be available to purchase or rent on digital (i.e. Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Fandango at Home, etc.) beginning New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, 2025. Part 1’s digital drop included deleted and extended scenes as well as a sing-along version, so you can count on Part 2 to have similar bonus materials. Happy New Year, indeed!
The Wicked movies are from Universal Pictures, which means Wicked: For Good, like the original, will first stream on NBCUniversal’s streaming service, Peacock, before popping up elsewhere. When will Wicked Part 2 be streaming?
The first installment landed on Peacock on March 21, 2025, so you can expect the sequel to arrive around that same time in 2026.
Wicked: For Good will likely be available to rent or buy on Prime at the end of December 2025, but it won’t become streamable to subscribers until the movie’s run on Peacock is up, and it’s unclear when that will be.
Will Wicked 2 be on Disney Plus?
No. The Wicked movies are from Universal Pictures, and Disney is a direct competitor.
Wicked: For Good may land on Netflix once its run on Peacock is complete, but that’s a ways off at this point.
Will Wicked 2 be on Hulu?
Probably not. Hulu is owned by Disney, so barring a licensing agreement we aren’t aware of, the streamer won’t be home to the Wicked movies anytime soon.
It’s possible. The first Wicked is available to stream on HBO Max in certain regions of the world, including Southeast Asia, but it’s not available to HBO Max subscribers in the United States — at least not at the moment.
