Cody Johnson is sharing an update on his health following recent news that he suffered a burst eardrum that needed ‘immediate’ attention.
In an interview with Taste of Country Nights, the country music superstar, who took home the 2025 CMA Award for Male Vocalist of the Year on Wednesday, Nov. 19, revealed that he has been struggling mentally during the recovery process following surgery. But on a positive note, he shares that he has learned how to be patient through it all.
“Everything kind of sounds a little funny right now,” the Texan, 38, told host Evan Paul. “It has pissed me off, for lack of a better way of saying it.”
“I’ve been so irritated because I know I wanna hear these things and I wanna be better,” he continued, “but it’s taught me a lot of patience.”
The Country Singer Canceled the Rest of His 2025 Shows
Earlier this year, Johnson was forced to cancel all remaining dates of his Leather Deluxe Tour to undergo surgery after a lengthy upper respiratory infection resulted in a burst eardrum.
On Tuesday, Oct. 7, he issued a statement to his fanbase on social media, telling them: “It is with a very heavy heart that I have to share that the remainder of this year’s concert performances will not be able to happen. While battling a severe upper respiratory and sinus infection, I burst my eardrum. The severity of the rupture means I must undergo immediate surgery.”
“The healing process will take many weeks, and it is not possible for me to sing during this time. Without the surgery, my downtime could be months,” he continued. “I pray for full healing so I can get well and return to doing what I love. Thank you, COJO Nation, for the love and support, now and always.”
Now that he is focusing on his recovery, Johnson has already rescheduled some of his canceled tour dates for 2026. They include two shows in Columbus, Ohio, on July 17, 2026, and July 18, 2026, and shows in Birmingham, Alabama, on February 6, 2026, and February 7, 2026.
