Though best known as an Oscar-winning actress, Paltrow stepped into the country spotlight in 2010 when she took on the lead role of fallen star Kelly Canter in the film Country Strong.

To make the character believable, she trained extensively with vocal coaches and Nashville musicians, ultimately performing all her own vocals for the soundtrack. Her breakout country performance came with the film’s title track, “Country Strong,” which she debuted live at the CMA Awards—earning praise for her warm tone and unexpectedly natural fit within the genre.
