Robert Irwin is crediting Dancing With the Stars with letting him handle his grief, following the loss of his father, in new ways.
"For the first time ever this experience has been a way to find this avenue to feel and express emotions from my own grief journey that I've never been able to truly embrace before and I certainly haven't embraced publicly," he said on a recent episode of "Chicks in the Office."
Irwin, 21, who's made his way to the finals of the ballroom dance competition has regularly talked about the death of his dad, famed conservationist Steve Irwin, and also dedicated several dances to him. Robert also referred to his mom Terri as a pillar of strength as she's shown him, "how much strength there is in vulnerability and the fact that it's okay to cry, to let it all out."

"I just hope for anyone particularly anyone young people watching who's experienced that loss to see that and see I'm not alone," he added. "It's really hard sometimes but what defines you is how you keep moving forward."
On the most recent episode of the ballroom dance competition show, he thanked his partner Witney Carson for choreographing a piece that helped him in his grieving process.
"I was also very grateful that Witney created this choreography and created an avenue to truly heal a part of myself that wanted to be healed for a long time," he said.? SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox ?
