ALBION, N.Y. — The Albion Police Department is warning local businesses to check their point-of-sale machines for credit card skimmers.
On Wednesday, police say they got a report of a credit card skimming device at the Save-A-Lot on West Avenue in Albion.
After investigating, police say they learned the skimming device was put on the register closest to the store’s entrance and exit on Nov. 14. They say a customer at the store saw the key pad, and noticed it had “new buttons.”
Police say the suspect, who is pictured below, went into the store and put the skimming device on the key pad unnoticed.
The police department is recommending businesses check their point-of-sale machines for credit card skimmers. Police say one way to find out if it is a skimmer is to check for “new” looking buttons or lack of security of the machine pieces.
Police are also recommending anyone who shopped at the Save-A-Lot between Nov. 14 – Nov. 19 to check their bank account for any suspicious activity.
Police are still investigating. They ask anyone with information on this or on any other similar incidents to call 585-589-5627.
