Princess Diana’s Wax Figure Wearing Iconic ‘Revenge Dress’ Has Royal Fans Talking

The late Princess Diana has been immortalized with a wax figure that debuted on Thursday at one of Europe's oldest wax museums.

Decades after her tragic death in a car crash, the beloved British royal returned to Paris, with the statue unveiled in the city's Grevin Museum (Musée Grévin).

According to museum officials, per the AP, the wax figure of Diana was ordered by the director after he reportedly visited London's Madame Tussauds and was underwhelmed by her likeness.

The newest life-size wax figure draws inspiration from the Princess of Wales' most-talked-about looks and what's now known as the "revenge dress." The figure includes Diana dressed up in a black, off-the-shoulder cocktail dress, which she previously wore to the Serpentine Gallery event in London in 1994, on the same evening that King CharlesIII, then only Prince Charles, publicly admitted to being unfaithful in his marriage with Camilla Parker Bowles, the now-Queen Camilla.

In addition to the dress, the wax figure also features Diana's perfectly styled and timeless short hairstyle, the pearl choker she wore and finds her holding a little black handbag.

The museum unveiled the wax figure on the 30th anniversary of Diana's explosive "Panorama" interview on the BBC with journalist Martin Bashir.

Broadcast on Nov. 20, 1995, it became one of the most-watched and controversial interviews in history, as Diana arranged it in secret and candidly addressed the crumbling of her marriage to Prince Charles, the affair, and the lack of support from the royal institution when it came to her mental health struggles.

While the BBC was called out for Bashir's deceitful tactics to gain Diana's trust, the interview is largely regarded for shifting the public perception of the royal family.

As for the wax figure, while some agree it bears a striking resemblance to the mother of Prince William and Harry, the overwhelming response appears to be that it looks "nothing like her."

"It doesn't capture her beauty at all. Makes her look about 10 years older, for a start," one wrote, as another added, "They made her look like Camilla."

"She had much sharper facial features. Try again," someone else pointed out, as others stated, "Makes her look too masculine ?" and "Dreadful."

"Better start over!" someone else suggested, as another noted that it lacks what actually made Diana the people's princess, "I don’t feel it depicts her kind bright and beautiful face, her natural glow and smile. I know how her sons would feel. She was remembered for so much more than the revenge dress. But I can guess what you are trying to say and what you believe is your only memory."

"No, no, no, on all fronts. Where is the warmth, kindness and compassion that Princess Diana exuded?" someone else chimed in, as others emphasized it "doesn't do her justice."

Others tried to be a little kinder, writing, "The dress is her, not the face.?" as someone else chimed in, "It looks more like the lady that played Diana in The Crown than the real Princess Diana ?."

"Doesn’t look like her through the eyes. She was way more stunning but it’s obvious it’s her," another quipped, as someone else suggested, "It's so life like."

But it seems that one person was truly on the money when they suggested, "I think it's time to let her rest in peace."
