IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — The East Irondequoit Central School District held an online safety forum on Wednesday, in the wake of news that a former Chili firefighter, Vincent Steiner, was arrested on charges of sexual exploitation of children. He was accused of sending explicit messages to children through an online gaming platform, officials said.
Trooper Jason Klewicki of the New York State Police took part in the forum about how parents can protect their kids from the dangers of online gaming.
“No matter how good of a parent you are, you are never going to be there 24-7 when they are online,” Klewicki said. “Develop trust … protect them from those situations.”
Klewicki advised parents to disable chat features on gaming platforms and consider creating their own accounts to play with their children.
