A suburban man has been arrested after he allegedly was trying to produce drugs in his residence, sickening numerous police officers and firefighters.
According to Crestwood police, the incident occurred inside an apartment on September 30.
Officers were called to the residence for a well-being check, and when they arrived, they found a man unresponsive on the floor inside. A pot containing an unknown substance was on a stovetop inside the residence.
As the first responders tended to the man, four police officers and four firefighters began to experience “negative effects” from the substance. All eight were transported to area hospitals, where they were treated and released.
In coming weeks, the substances located in the apartment were tested by the Illinois State Police Crime Lab.
After that investigation, the suspect was taken into custody by Crestwood police, and he is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms with intent to deliver.
He also was charged with reckless conduct, police said.
