The Steelers opened their Week 12 prep with one storyline dominating everything out of Pittsburgh: the status of Aaron Rodgers. And as the Bears get ready for Sunday at Soldier Field, this is the variable that hangs over the matchup more than anything else.
Rodgers did not practice on Wednesday as he continues to deal with a fractured left wrist suffered in last week’s win over Cincinnati. The injury won’t require surgery, but stability, protection, and functionality remain the hurdles between Rodgers and a return to the field. He rehabbed on Wednesday and said the wrist “feels better today than it did on Sunday,” adding that his plan is to “try and get back on the field tomorrow” to test what he can tolerate.
When asked what he needs to play Sunday, Rodgers was direct: “Got to get the okay. Got to feel like I can protect myself.”
Mike Tomlin isn’t ruling him out, but he isn’t guaranteeing anything either. The longtime Steelers coach laid out the checklist: bracing and securing the wrist, ensuring Rodgers can protect himself if he’s hit or has to brace a fall, assessing functionality, and ultimately making sure he can be effective. Tomlin also emphasized that Rodgers’ experience—both in prep and in playing through pain—gives him a better chance than most to ramp up quickly.
Still, the Steelers spent Wednesday preparing as if Mason Rudolph would run the offense. Will Howard also got an uptick in reps while Rodgers is sidelined from team work.

That dual-track approach, Tomlin said, makes the pivot cleaner than it might look from the outside.
Beyond Rodgers, the Steelers are also monitoring running back Jaylen Warren. He suffered an ankle injury against the Bengals and will be limited this week, though Tomlin is “optimistic about his inclusion” on Sunday. Warren was cleared to return last weekend, but Kenneth Gainwell’s success in the second half led Tomlin to ride the hot hand.
