The first session of the the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational was fast. Will Modglin set the fastest 50 backstroke in history, swimming 20.00 to lead off the men’s 200 medley relay while Campbell McKean swam the 6th fastest 50 breaststroke in history and Torri Huske had the 7th fastest 50 fly split in history.

    Today, we will get our first look at the new NCAA lineup, which is a variation of the typical Friday event order. We will start the session with the men’s and women’s 100 fly before moving onto the 400 IM. The 200 free and 100 breast will round out the prelims session.

    Women’s 100 Fly — Prelims

    Torri Huske made a statement in her prelims swim, setting a new season best 50.76 to earn the top spot in tonight’s event final. Her previous season best came in at 51.05 from the Stanford, Arizona State, Cal tri-meet  at the end of October. She still sits about seven tenths behind Claire Curzan who leads the nation this year at 50.06, but she has finals tonight to make up that difference.

    Cardinal teammate Gigi Johnson picked up the 2nd seed tonight at 51.21, only about two tenths off her lifetime best of 50.99 from the 2024 NCAA Championships. This swim was faster than the 51.26 she swam to finish 14th at last year’s NCAAs.

    Stanford put a 3rd athlete in the final with Ella Jablonski finishing 8th in 52.66 to take the last spot in tonight’s ‘A’ final. She was about six tenths off her lifetime best of 52.05 from November of 2022, but she set a new season best mark.

    Texas also got three swimmers through to the final with Campbell Stoll qualifying 2nd (51.53), Eva Okaro earning 5th (52.21), and Angie Coe finishing 6th (52.27). This was Okaro’s first time swimming the event SCY, and Coe set a new season best, dropping from the 52.92 she swam against Tennessee.

    Pitt’s Sydney Gring (51.86) and Texas A&M’s Ava Whitaker (52.40) will round out tonight’s final

    Men’s 100 Fly — Prelims

    USC’s Michal Chmielewski set the fastest time in this morning’s 100 fly prelims, touching in 45.27, a new personal best time, dropping from the 45.40 he swam at last year’s Big Ten Championships. He is now only about a tenth over last year’s NCAA Invite Time in the event.

    Chase Swearingen swam 45.51 to qualify 2nd for the final, though he was out faster than Chmielewski, splitting 21.18 on the first 50 to Chmielewski’s 21.58. This was also a new personal best, dropping from the 45.94 he swam just last month.He has dropped more than a second from his preseason best of 46.85 from February of 2023.

    Texas’ Garrett Gould will round out the top three at 45.81, coming in just nine hundredths ahead of Pitt’s Julian Koch. Gould dropped about half-a-second from the 46.37 he swam at this meet last year and Koch was just off his personal best 45.43 he swam two weeks ago.

    Texas put a 2nd swimmer in the final with Kyle Peck‘s 45.98 for 5th. Northwestern also has two swimmers in the final tonight with Stuart Seymour (46.02) and Connor Schuster (46.37) qualifying 6th and 8th respectively.

    Wisconsin’s Charlie Jones finished 7th in a new season best 46.25

    Women’s 400 IM — Prelims

    NCAA Standard — 4:13.20 2025 Invite Time — 4:09.53

    The Cardinal are two-for-two with top seeds this morning. Senior Lucy Bell swam 4:04.81 to grab the top seed in her first time swimming the event this season. She is about four seconds off her lifetime best in the event of 4:00.24 from last year’s NCAA Championships.

    USC’s Justina Kozan finished 2nd in 4:05.08, two seconds off her lifetime best of 4:03.25. This swim was a new season best, dropping from the 4:05.15 she swam at the beginning of October.

    Kozan and Bell swam similar races at the beginning, but the back halves were practically opposite Bell was out in 56.09, two tenths ahead of Kozan’s 56.25. Their backstroke legs were also similar with Bell splitting 1:02.94, about seven tenths faster than Kozan’s 1:03.60.

    Unsurprisingly, Bell had the fastest breaststroke split at 1:06.86. Kozan came in nearly four seconds back at 1:10.31 to sit more than four seconds back at the 300 mark. On the freestyle leg, Kozan came back in major fashion, splitting 54.92 on the final 100 to make up four seconds on Bell’s 58.92 split.

    Texas’ Campbell Stoll swam her 2nd event of the morning after qualifying 3rd in the 100 fly, touching in 4:08.09 to qualify 3rd for this final as well.

    Men’s 400 IM — Prelims

    NCAA Standard — 3:46.19 2025 Invite Time — 3:41.61

    Baylor Nelson set a new personal best time en route to the top seed in tonight’s 400 IM final for Texas. He knocked three tenths off his previous best of 3:37.46 from the 2024 NCAA Championships.

    The Longhorns also put Cooper Lucas in the final at the 2nd seed and Rex Maurer (3:44.25 at the 6th seed. Lucas swam 3:38.09 to be the only other swimmer under 3:40 this morning. His time was also a personal best time, dropping nine hundredths from his 3:38.18 from last year.

    Dominik Mark Torok from Wisconsin finished 3rd in 3:40.33. His lifetime best stands at 3:37.50, but this was a new season best for him. The top three swimmers will all jump Rex Maurer, who had the top time in the country before Invites, in the season rankings.

    Nelson split 49.10/54.00/1:01.39/52.66 coming in faster than Lucas’ 49.69/55.45/1:01.78/51.17 on every split except the freestyle leg, where Lucas made up nearly a second-and-a-half on him.

    Women’s 200 Free — Prelims

    NCAA Standard — 1:45.53 2025 Invite Time — 1:44.74

    Top 8 Qualifiers

    Minna Abraham (USC)- 1:42.89 Nikolett Padar (TEX)- 1:43.10 Lillie Nesty (TEX)- 1:43.50 Claire Tuggle (USC)- 1:43.65 Abby Wanezek (WISC)- 1:43.74 Gigi Johnson (STAN)- 1:43.97 Maggie Wanezek (WISC)- 1:44.28 Kayla Wilson (STAN)- 1:44.72

    Minna Abraham grabbed the top spot in the women’s 200 free prelims, touching in 1:42.89, just of fher season best 1:42.50 from the USC Invite at the beginning of October. She was out fast in 49.64, coming home in 53.25 to hold onto the lead.

    Texas finished 2nd and 3rd in prelims with Nikolett Padar qualifying 2nd in 1:43.10, and Lillie Nesty finishing 3rd in 1:43.50. Padar’s swim was a new personal best, taking three tenths off her 1:43.48 from the end of October. She almost even split her race, turning in 51.04 at the 100 mark before splitting just a second slower on the 2nd 100 at 52.06.

    Nesty’s swim was a half-second drop from her season best 1:44.08, and it was about a second of fher lifetime best 1:42.86 from last year’s NCAA Championships.

    Claire Tuggle from USC was 4th in 1:43.65, coming in just a tenth ahead of Wisconsin’s Abby Wanezek‘s 1:43.74. This was a huge personal best for Wanezek, taking nearly two seconds off the 1:45.48 she swam at last year’s Big Ten Championships and comes in a second under last year’s NCAA Invite time in the event after she did not qualify for any individual events last year.

    Wanezek’s sister Maggie Wanezek also had a huge drop, taking three seconds off her best of 1:47.43 from March of 2023. This comes after she had a huge 100 backstroke swim a few weeks ago of 50.30 to rank in the top three in the country coming into this meet.

    Stanford’s Gigi Johnson and Kayla Wilson rounded out the final at 6th (1:43.97) and 8th (1:44.72) respectively.

    Men’s 200 Free — Prelims

    NCAA Standard — 1:33.93 2025 Invite Time — 1:32.27

    The men’s 200 freestyle saw Texas transfer Jacob Wimberly set a massive personal best time to earn the top spot in tonight’s final. He touched in 1:31.57 to take more than a second off the 1:32.86 mark he set at last year’s SEC Championships for Texas A&M.

    The Longhorns have three more athletes in tonight’s final with Calvin Fry finishing 5th (1:34.00), Manning Haskal finishing 7th (1:34.30), and Camden Taylor taking the last spot in the final in 8th (1:34.31).

    Luukas Vainio finished 2nd in 1:33.44, nearly two seconds back for Wisconsin. This was also a new personal best, dropping fromt he 1:34.23 he swam in March of 2024. This time comes in under the NCAA Standard in the event, but he will likely need another second drop to earn an invite.

    The Badgers have been seeing huge drops with their new head coach, and they put another swimmer in the final with Enzo Solitario qualifying 4th in 1:33.77, about a half-second drop from the 1:34.18 he swam this weekend last year.

    Oliver Sogaard-Andersen rounds out the top three for USC with his 1:33.52 for 3rd. This is about a second add from the 1:32.66 he swam at this meet last year, but it was a new season best, dropping from the 1:35.10 he swam against Arizona State at the beginning of November.

    Women’s 100 Breast — Prelims

    NCAA Standard — 1:00.30 2025 Invite Time — 59.51

    Top 8 Qualifiers:

    Lucy Bell (STAN)- 57.88 Lucy Thomas (STAN)- 58.76 Piper Enge (TEX)- 58.96 Ella McQuinn (TA&M)- 59.52 Addie Robillard (STAN)- 59.87 Brooke Corrigan (WISC)- 59.95 Bella Brito (USC)- 1:00.17 Angie Coe (TEX)- 1:00.22

    Lucy Bell turned around from setting the top tie in the 400 IM prelims to earn the top seed in the 100 breaststroke at 57.88. This was her 3rd personal best in the event this season after she dropped to 58.29 at the end of October and then 58.27 the first week in November. She came into the season at  58.30 from last February’s dual meet with Cal.

    Lucy Thomas picked up the 2nd seed for Stanford in 58.76, about three tenths off her lifetime best 58.48 from last season’s NCAA Championships. Addie Robillard finished 5th for the Cardinal in 59.87, half-a-second off her lifetime best of 59.33 from December of 2023.

    Texas’ Piper Enge finished 3rd in 58.96, about seven tenths off their season best 58.27 from the Texas vs Tennessee meet at the end of October.

    A&M’s Ella McQuinn and Wisconsin’s Brooke Corrigan rounded out the sub-1:00 swimmers this morning at 4th and 6th respectively. Both swimmers broke 1:00 for the first time. McQuinn dropped from the 1:00.57 she swam this weekend last year to touch in 59.52.

    Corrigan swam 59.95, dropping from her 1:00.35 best time she set at the beginning of the month.

    Men’s 100 Breast — Prelims

    NCAA Standard — 52.58 2025 Invite Time — 51.58

    Top 8 Qualifiers:

    Nate Germonprez (TEX)- 50.00 Campbell McKean (TEX)- 50.87 Will Modglin (TEX)- 51.46 Will Scholtz (TEX)- 51.78 Logan Brown (TA&M)- 52.01 Joshua Staples (NU)- 52.07 Junhao Chan (USC)- 52.17 Ben Wiegand (WISC)- 52.27

    The men’s 100 breaststroke was all about Texas with the Longhorns taking the top four seeds out of prelims. Nate Germonprez set the top time at 50.00, a fourteen hundredth drop from the 50.14 he swam at last year’s SEC Championships.

    Germonprez now sits more than half-a-second faster than anyone else has been this season, with his previous nation leading time coming in at 50.62.

    Freshman Campbell McKean swam 50.87 to drop four tenths from his best of 51.28 that he swam last March. Will Modglin (51.46) and Will Scholtz (51.78) rounded out the top four for Texas at 3rd and 4th. Modglin dropped more than a second from his previous best of 52.92.

    Texas A&M’s Logan Brown finished 5th at 52.01, a tenth drop from the 52.14 he swam in November of 2023.
