Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney, who is also on the management staff for Hockey Canada putting together their roster for the Olympics, was at the United Center last night. Maybe to watch Connor Bedard in person? Maybe to take a look at a few Flames of interest? Maybe both? Take this for what it’s worth, but TSN’s “Insider Trading” segment last night reported Hockey Canada’s management group will meet Dec. 6-9. Sweeney got to see Bedard put up a hat trick with an A on his chest. If the goal was to make a strong impression, mission accomplished!

— B/R Open Ice (@BR_OpenIce) November 19, 2025 I mentioned earlier this morning in the highlight package of Bedard’s hat trick that he became the first player in the NHL to have multiple three-goal performances this year. That lasted for about an hour — until Macklin Celebrini did it, too. The two made a little history with hat tricks on the same night. And, for as much as there’s talk in the media and among fans about who’s better, it’s really fun watching two young guys seemingly take over the league at the same time. Maybe this will be the new Crosby-Ovechkin rivalry the league has been praying for…. twitter.com/NHLPR/status/1991026496941502731 I didn’t give it much oxygen in my postgame notes, but something needs to be said about how much of a poverty franchise the Calgary Flames were last night/are right now. Adam Klapka’s cheap shot on Connor Murphy should get a suspension (but it won’t). The way they jumped Colton Dach and Sam Rinzel after the horn sounded last night and started a line brawl was pathetic and should give the Department of Player Safety more reason to give Klapka a call. All ten skaters on the ice at the end of regulation received misconduct penalties. But if I was a fan of the Flames — or in their front office or coaches’ room — and I saw their bench laughing and chirping at Rinzel as the fight was broken up after they lost the game 5-2, I would be pissed. An absolute garbage display from the team with the worst record in the league. And somebody is going to get hurt if they’re allowed to take cheap shots like this. They already knocked Frank Nazar out of a couple games with a cheap shot in the previous meeting.HUGE FIGHT at the buzzer as Chelsea Dagger plays pic.twitter.com/YoFa8sY292
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) November 19, 2025 Fun stat I did not expect from last night: Louis Crevier recorded a slap shot clocking in at 102.41 mph at 9:51 of the first period, the second-fastest shot this season behind Morgan Geekie’s 103.03 mph shot on Nov. 11.NHL GameScore Impact Card for Chicago Blackhawks on 2025-11-18: pic.twitter.com/bTURUe9Zar
— HockeyStatCards (@hockeystatcards) November 19, 2025 Scott Powers at The Athletic shared a tremendous first edition of a series he’s beginning in which he asks players ten questions. The first shares some personality from defenseman Wyatt Kaiser. I love that Scott asked him to describe what it’s like playing with Artyom Levshunov. His answer is fabulous:It’s a blast. I love it. It honestly makes me smile. I have fun with it. I think his game is continuing to grow and grow. There’s always going to be some, I call them Arty moments a little bit, but I have fun. I try to support him as much as I can. He obviously supports me as well. It’s kind of like a partnership: we’re looking for each other on the ice, looking to help each other support, talking on the bench.
How would I describe it? It’s like jumping in a fast river and having a blast. You can’t fight against it, you’re just swimming with it and you release that and you’re in the tube floating down and you’re having a blast.

Behm scored the overtime game-winning goal after having the primary assist on the first two Kamloops goals in a 5-4 win for the Flames. Here’s the OT GWG:BEHM CALLS GAME! pic.twitter.com/ka97LXRDL2

Pridham had the primary assist on the game-winning goal and scored into the empty net for a two-point evening in a 3-1 Kitchener win. Another great interview with Blackhawks quarterback prospect Mason West as he prepares for the Minnesota state high school 6A championship game.Loved this perspective from @edinahornets QB @MasonWest2026 on playing multiple sports.Could've easily skipped senior FB season after NHL Draft."I just love playing both sports, that's the biggest thing, I love being out here, I love practice, I love being with the guys." pic.twitter.com/v3uhyeBetv
— Will Hall (@WillHallKARE11) November 19, 2025 Jon Cooper was not behind the bench last night when the Lightning faced the Devils. The team announced he was away for personal reasons. Before last night’s game, the Flames claimed forward John Beecher off waivers from the Bruins. Poor kid… Interesting piece here from Corey Pronman at The Athletic about Gavin McKenna’s draft stock. He’s been the presumed No. 1 overall pick in 2026 for a couple years, much as Bedard was for 2023. But he hasn’t knocked the world over with his play thus far at Penn State in the Big Ten. Pronman talks about how McKenna wasn’t a perfect prospect before the hype of jumping to college, and lists a few others who might push their way into the conversation eventually. But he kinda comes to a close with McKenna still likely being the top prospect. I will note — because I track these things and keep the receipts — that Matthew Schaefer was consistently ranked in the 3-6 range until the middle of December last year by the folks I usually cite here. James Hagens was the consensus No. 1 prospect until the turn of the calendar year. After a less than stellar start to Gavin McKenna's freshman season, the number one pick in the 2026 NHL Draft is up for grabs t.co/xBNg7fRcj1
