Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Hazel Huilman from Boulder, Colorado, has committed to swim and study at the University of Michigan beginning in the 2026-27 school year. She told SwimSwam:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Michigan! Thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and all those who supported me throughout this process. Also, a big thank you to the Michigan staff for giving me this incredible opportunity. Go Blue!!”
A senior at Boulder High School, Huilman swims year-round with Elevation Athletics and specializes in breaststroke, butterfly, and IM. She won the 100 fly (53.98) and 100 breast (1:02.50) at the Colorado CHSAA Girls 5A State Championship, improving on her 4th-place finish in the breast (1:05.00, a PB) and 5th in the 100 fly (56.33, a PB) as a sophomore in 2024.
Huilman does her club swimming with Elevation Athletics. At 2024 Winter Juniors West, she competed in the 100 free, 100/200 breast, 100 fly, and 200 IM and finaled in the 100 breast (23rd), 200 breast (15th), and 100 fly (15th). She clocked lifetime bests in the 100 free (52.21), 100 breast (1:02.71), 200 breast (2:13.84), 100 fly (53.79), and 200 IM (2:03.13).
At Austin Sectionals in March, she placed 2nd in the 200 breast and lowered her PB to 2:13.59. She also finaled in the 200 free (28th, PB of 1:52.26), 100 breast (5th, 1:02.88), 100 fly (13th, 55.69), 200 fly (11th, PB of 2:04.53), and 200 IM (8th, 2:04.01).
She had a big meet at Summer Junior Nationals, finaling in the 100 breast (25th) and 200 breast (25th) and hitting lifetime bests in the 50 breast (33.10), 100 breast (1:10.41), 200 breast (2:31.35), 50 fly (28.66), and 200 IM (2:22.09).
In the spring of 2022, Hazel was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis, a chronic immune-mediated allergic inflammatory condition of the esophagus involving eosinophils, a type of white blood cell. The diagnosis came after a year-long battle with a mysterious illness and significant time away from training and competition.
Huilman will join the Wolverines’ class of 2030 with Gilaine Ma, Gioia Balzano, and Miyaka Chang.
