Actress Maureen McCormick, who played Marcia Brady in the hit '70s family sitcomThe Brady Bunch, revealed she and late singer Michael Jackson had an innocent romance during their teenage years.
ReMind Magazine reported that McCormick spoke about her dynamic with Jackson, who died in 2009 at the age of 50, during a 2009 interview with Access Hollywood. According to McCormick, she was about 16 years old and Jackson was about 14 years old when they went on dates with each other. She also said she was in awe of Jackson and his famous family during their friendship.
"I was just absolutely in love with Michael Jackson. I thought he was the greatest star ever. I couldn't even believe that here I am little Maureen McCormick from the Valley driving up to the Jackson 5 house and going inside and hanging out," said McCormick in the Access Hollywood interview.
She also recalled holding hands with Jackson during a date at the ice skating rink.
"I was in love. I thought I was going to maybe be Mrs. Michael Jackson. Yeah, I definitely could have been. I would have loved it," said McCormick, who is married to Michael Cummings.
She said, however, that she didn't feel all that comfortable at Jackson's house because of the strictness of his parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson.
"His parents they were always kind of there. And I always kind of felt like I was being watched. Like I wasn't good enough or something to be hanging with Michael," said McCormick, who was cast as Marcia when she was 13.
The actress clarified that it could have been her own "lack of self-esteem" that made her feel insecure in the Jackson household.
McCormick mentioned her and Jackson's friendship on a 2016 episode of Harry Connick Jr.'s talk show, Harry. The 69-year-old clarified that she's not sure if Jackson viewed their outings as "dates."
"I did," said McCormick.
She also said that she met Jackson and his family "at some attorney's place where [they] were all signing contracts." She said that she and Jackson immediately had a connection and were fans of each other's work.
"We just became friends and admired each other. I think he loved the Brady Bunch," said McCormick in the 2016 interview.
