ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Institute of Technology’s Hunger Project packaged more than 30,000 meals on Tuesday morning to help fight hunger in the community.
Some meals will be distributed by Foodlink, while others will be stocked in RIT’s own food pantry.
Around 300 volunteers, including faculty and staff, participated in the event, each taking on a specific role in the assembly line to pack the meals.
“We recognize that many in our community are impacted by food insecurity and this is our way to help with a solution – maybe temporary – to help people out who are impacted by that,” said Bill St. Jean, associate director of RIT Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement.
Over the past eight years, the Hunger Project has packed more than half a million meals for Rochester.
