NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The daughter of a couple who died in a fiery crash on the Rainbow Bridge in 2023 has filed a lawsuit against the carmakers.
According to News10NBC’s affiliate in Buffalo, the lawsuit accuses Bentley Motors and Volkswagen of producing a car with defective parts. It also claims the car, driven by Kurt and Monica Villani, lacked a brake override for its electronic throttle.
Video from November 2023 showed the car launching into the air and crashing into a customs booth, igniting a major fire. The Villanis, who were from Grand Island, died in the crash. No one else was injured.
At the time of the crash, various sources told our Buffalo affiliate that the driver of the car was a business owner in that area with his wife on the way to Toronto for a concert.
Many questions about the cause of the crash remain unanswered. The car’s data recorder was destroyed in the explosion.
