ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A Lung Cancer Awareness Day event took place in downtown Rochester Tuesday, aiming to educate the community on smoking cessation resources and screening options.
The Wilmot Cancer Institute organized the event, which took place during Lung Cancer Awareness Month, focusing on reducing lung cancer’s impact through prevention, detection, and treatment.
“In our community we have a very high incidence of smokers. One in three in our community compared to in the country which is 1 in 10,” said Dr. Carolyn Jones, an expert from the Wilmot Cancer Institute.
According to the institute, lung cancer is the most common type of cancer in the region. A team at Wilmot is working to reduce lung cancer’s impact by focusing on the disease on prevention, detection, and treatment.
