As per Times of India, sources claimed that Gill’s injury was not just a spasm and that he could have been carrying the injury for a long time. The source stated that the seriousness of the injury is still now known, adding that the doctors were still assessing it. Gill is not expected to travel along with the rest of the Indian team to Guwahati on Wednesday as people with neck issues aren’t advised to take commercial air travel.
“The seriousness of the injury is not known yet. The doctors are assessing it,” a source told the publication.
The report further claims that Gill is all but out of the IND vs SA 2nd Test which begins from November 22 onwards. The Indian Test team captain, who is also the ODI skipper, is an all-format player and recently featured in the ODIs and T20Is against Australia before his injury in the IND vs SA 1st Test. Earlier, India bowling coach Morne Morkel had claimed that a pillow problem was the reason behind Shubman’s injury. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Meanwhile, India cricket team will have an optional training session at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday in order to gear up for the 2nd Test. The hosts were handed a 30-run defeat by the Proteas in Kolkata as they failed to chase down the 124-run target.
