As the Bears await some potentially beneficial injury news this Sunday regarding Aaron Rodgers and his wrist, we received an injury update that directly impacts their matchup on Black Friday in Philadelphia.
ESPN’s Tim McManus reports that Eagles All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson will miss that game and a few more with a Lisfranc sprain he suffered on Sunday night against the Lions. Johnson is a six-time Pro Bowler, two-time first-team All-Pro, and two-time Super Bowl champion. He is also regarded as one of the best pass-blocking offensive tackles in football. Johnson being out of action when the Bears come to town on Black Friday is a nice break for a defensive line that’s had its share of struggles thus far this season when it comes to getting to the quarterback.

The Eagles’ offensive line, while good, hasn’t quite been the unit that it was last year when they won the Super Bowl. Center Cam Jurgens and guard Landon Dickerson have missed time this year. And while Lane Johnson has played in every game so far, he has also been dealing with some lingering issues (granted, most offensive linemen do).
With how much the Bears have struggled rushing the passer this season, and at times against the run, it certainly won’t hurt to not have to go up against one of the best tackles in all of football. Dennis Allen loves to be aggressive, and if he sees Philly’s offense line not at 100 percent, I would expect him to get creative in ways to challenge that unit.
It would also be helpful to Dennis Allen’s defense if cornerback Jaylon Johnson were back on the field, which seems like a real possibility. The Bears opened his window to return last week, and things could very well time up for Chicago’s best defensive player to be back for that matchup. If he is, Allen would certainly feel a lot more creative challenging Philly’s banged-up offensive line, knowing he has one of the best cover corners in football back on the field.
