Beatles fans may want to clear some space on their 2026 playlists. For the first time in more than a decade, two members of the Fab Four,Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, are reportedly releasing new solo albums in the same year.
A Beatles fan posted a Reddit list documenting each year the band members released solo projects, noting that current speculation points to the possibility of two new albums arriving in 2026.
Of the two Beatles, Starr is the one who has officially announced his plans. After wrapping up his tour in September, the iconic drummer said he’s focusing on finishing the follow-up to his 2025 country album Look Up.
Teaming up again with producer and songwriter T Bone Burnett, Starr is aiming for a February 2026 release, though he admitted the date could shift.
“We’re busy and [Burnett is] busy, too,” Starr told the Associated Press. “And we’re gonna work on the record in October. So, how long will that take? We don’t know. So, let’s relax. It’s out February. But you know, the record label may change my mind.”
Ringo added, “[The label might ask,] ‘Do you think we could have it January the 19th?’ But whatever. … We’ll see.”
Among the songs on the new album, Starr teased a special cover of a lesser-known Carl Perkins tune. During a recent press conference, Starr explained that the track honors his roots, with Perkins’ impact on early Beatles music still very meaningful to him.
“I’ve just done a remake of another Carl Perkins song on my new country album, ’cause T Bone loves the idea that the first two songs I [sang] on Beatle records [were by] Carl Perkins,” he said. “And I just loved it because it was like country and rock at the same time.”
He described the cover as “a little sadder,” adding, “I’d never heard this one, and T Bone told me neither had he. But it’s beautiful. [Perkins] was such a great writer.”
Meanwhile, McCartney has reportedly been hard at work in the studio on his first solo album since 2020. According to The Sun, the project is about “90 percent complete.” A source told the outlet that while McCartney initially hoped to release the album sooner, creative timelines shifted, but most of the work is finished, and he’s “really proud of it.”
McCartney himself hinted at his creative momentum in his book Wings: The Story Of A Band On The Run, reportedly noting, “Right now, I have 25 songs that I'm finishing in the next few months, new songs that are interesting. I can hear something, I can hear a piece of music, and think, Oh, I love that. And I'll incorporate that feeling into a new song. And often, a constant thread through my writing is nostalgia, the memories of things past.”
Because the book’s foreword was written in March, Sir Paul has probably already selected the songs he wants on the album and may be ready to finalize the tracklist for next year.
This echoes what he told fans in a Q&A on his website last year, sharing that he had been “working on a lot of songs,” but temporarily set the project aside while touring.
“I’m hoping to get back into that and finish up a lot of these songs,” McCartney wrote. “So, how’s about that? My New Year’s resolution is to finish a new album!”
Fans won’t have to wait long to find out if McCartney stuck to his promise — and if 2026 will go down as a historic year for the two Beatles.
