CAIRO, Nov 16 (MENA) – Egypt aims to double its annual trade with Chad, currently about $35 million, by setting a two-year target and agreeing on mechanisms to expand exchanges, Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Hassan al-Khatib said on Sunday.
Speaking at an expanded ministerial session of the Egypt–Chad Joint Committee, he said a planned road linking Cairo and N’Djamena through Libya would cut transport costs and support Egypt’s decision to establish one of six planned African logistics hubs in Chad. He added that Egypt is keen to cooperate with Chad on implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area and to launch a bilateral business forum to explore investment and financing opportunities.
The two sides signed several memorandum of understanding on diplomatic coordination and cooperation in electricity and energy. Senior ministers from both countries attended the talks. Khatib and Chad’s foreign minister also signed an MoU to boost cooperation between Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones and Chad’s National Agency for Investments and Exports.
