Look Who’s Alone in First Place in the NFC North

The Chicago Bears will go to bed as the first-place team in the NFC North.

And you can thank the Philadelphia Eagles for their assistance in lending a helping hand.

By virtue of the Bears’ win against the Minnesota Vikings earlier in Week 11 and the Eagles doing their part in taking down the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football, Chicago’s football team will enter Week 12 alone at the top of the NFC North. No ties. No technicalities. Just the Bears. All by their lonesome. Sitting atop the NFC North standings.

What a difference a year makes.

The Chicago Bears are in 1st place after 11 weeks of the 2025 NFL season

Think about where you were as a fan at this time last year. You were watching a team was in the early stages of a 10-game losing streak. Shane Waldron had just been dumped as the offensive coordinator ahead of the team’s game against the Green Bay Packers, and Matt Eberflus’ time as the head coach was drawing to a close. We spent more time around here diving into NFL Draft prospects, dissecting potential head coach candidates, and deconstructing whatever weekly disasters the Bears were cooking up than anything else. No one around here was having a good time.

Now, fast forward a year. The Bears are 7-3. They are currently in their second three-game winning streak under Ben Johnson, the first-year head coach who has spearheaded the change at Halas Hall. Quarterback Caleb Williams has been credited with five fourth-quarter game-winning drives this season and has put together more good tape than bad as a second-year starter. This is what we were envisioning when Johnson was hired to team up with Williams. But it isn’t just a two-man game.

Running backs D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai have formed into a value-brand Sonic and Knuckles backfield tandem. Second-year wideout Rome Odunze is playing like a 1,000-yard receiver. Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds is having a bounce-back year. Safety Kevin Byard III has turned back the clock with his play. C.J. Gardner-Johnson went from the scrap pile to a key contributor to the defense. Every week seems to feature a new unsung hero. It makes this team fun to watch.

I could go on, but it’s late and we should probably rest our eyes at some point. After all, this won’t be be the last time we discuss the first-place Bears this week.
