Family and friends on Sunday were mourning a father and son who were murdered outside their Little Village jewelry store while trying to thwart a robbery.
Faustino Alamo, 63, and Luis Angel Alamo, 25, were shot and killed last weekend while trying to stop two people from stealing at their store, Angelo’s Jewelry, 3851 W. 26th St.
Relatives gathered on Sunday afternoon to remember the duo.
“They’re just a united family,” a family friend said. “They count on eachother, they’re always together.”
Chicago police said at approximately 5:49 p.m. on Nov. 8, a male suspect entered the jewelry store, displayed a gun and demanded property. After obtaining property and exiting the building, a fight occurred between the suspect and the father and son.
Surveillance video showed the Alamo’s run after the robbers and gunshots erupt. The father and son both later died from their injuries.
Family members spoke against city leadership in an interview with Telemundo Chicago at Sunday’s visitation but did not want to be identified.
“We are destroyed and infuriated that our city leaders have allowed this issue to get this bad,” a relative said.
No arrests had been made as of Sunday afternoon. The suspect was last seen entering a white SUV and fleeing southbound on Springfield Avenue.
Cook County Crime Stoppers and community activists are offering a combined $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
