Mariners Reportedly Set to Re-Sign Josh Naylor

Hey, there we go. The first major signing of the offseason! I knew something would shake out before Tuesday’s various deadlines.

Josh Naylor is reportedly set to re-up with the Seattle Mariners:

The Mariners made Josh Naylor their top priority entering the winter, and his excellence down the stretch got him a long-term deal to join Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodríguez and the Mariners’ rotation as a foundational piece. His energy was infectious. Seattle didn't want to lose it.

Although there was a bit of gamesmanship in the way the front office and Naylor talked about the advent of free agency, it did feel like this was such a good fit that it would continue. On a five-year deal, the Mariners will have their first baseman for a while.

Naylor, 28, came to the Mariners in a midseason trade with the Diamondbacks, after having arrived in Arizona from Cleveland last offseason. On the year, he hit .295/.353/.462/128 wRC+, with 20 homers and 30(!) stolen bases (yes, that really happened).
