A suspect wanted in a string of suburban sexual assaults was arrested in recent days, authorities say.
According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney, 31-year-old Kwame Koranteng has been arrested and charged in connection to assaults that occurred in Downers Grove, Hinsdale and Darien.
“Random sexually motivated attacks, as alleged in this case, don’t just traumatize the immediate victim, they also terrorize an entire community leaving residents fearful for their personal safety,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. “For nearly a week, as Mr. Koranteng allegedly roamed the streets of DuPage County looking for his next victim, residents were left feeling frightened and vulnerable as they went about their daily lives. This is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in DuPage County.”

The first alleged incident occurred November 7 in suburban Downers Grove. Police say that a woman was walking on Brookbank Road at approximately 3 p.m. when a suspect allegedly grabbed the woman’s buttock, asked her if “she can have sex,” then fled the scene in a Toyota Corolla.
Three days later, Hinsdale police spoke to a woman who said she was walking with an infant child on 59th Street when a man allegedly grabbed her buttocks from behind with both hands. The suspect then allegedly touched the woman’s vagina over her clothes, and fled the scene when she began screaming for help.
On November 13 at approximately 10:15 p.m., Darien police reported a man who allegedly followed a woman into the lobby of her apartment. He then allegedly grabbed the woman’s buttocks and fled the scene in a vehicle.
During the investigation, police zeroed in on Koranteng as a suspect in the case.
On Friday, police were conducting surveillance in the 7300 block of Fairmount Avenue in Downers Grove when they saw the suspect approach a woman with a young child. He then allegedly grabbed the woman’s buttocks and tried to wrap his arms around her, and she was able to push him away.
The suspect then tried to get in his vehicle to drive away from the scene, but was taken into custody.
Koranteng was denied pretrial release in the case, and will face another court hearing later this year, police said.
He has been charged with attempted criminal sexual assault, aggravated battery in a public place, aggravated battery of a person over 60, and criminal sexual abuse, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney.
