This "brilliant" holiday treat is quick, easy, and only requires three ingredients — canned cranberry sauce, chocolate, and coconut oil — so it's no wonder that the recipe is going viral ahead of Thanksgiving!

James Beard award-winning author and food influencer Carolina Gelen created the clever hack in 2024, and she brought it back with NYT Cooking for 2025. For the second year in a row, the extremely easy dessert is making waves online.
"Grab a can of jellied cranberry sauce, slice and freeze it," says the chef in a video making the chocolate-covered cranberry sauce bites, which now has more than a quarter of a million views on Instagram. "Once the cranberry sauce slices are frozen solid... dip each one in some melted chocolate [with coconut oil]. The chocolate will harden as soon as it touches the cranberry slice."

"Thanks to the pectin and sugar content, the sauce will turn perfectly fudgy in the freezer," she explained. That means you must use the canned version; fresh or homemade cranberry sauce likely won't work as well.

Fans called the unexpected recipe "brilliant" and "genius," with one fan adding, "Your brain is so wild!! In a good way lol." Another teased, "This is one way to get people to eat canned cranberry sauce!"
