Illinois State Police said on Friday Vandalia police requested ISP’s Division of Criminal Investigation to conduct a death investigation – and a person of interest had been detained.
Vandalia police said officers received a report of a missing person at approximately 6:34 a.m. Later that day, a deceased individual was found, and a suspect was taken into custody, authorities stated.
The investigation was “in its infancy,” state police said Saturday, and no additional details were available.
Vandalia is approximately 70 miles southeast of Springfield.
