Sorry, But Jaylon Johnson Won’t Play vs. Vikings in Week 11

Opening the 21-day practice window for Jaylon Johnson to return from injured reserve was a head-turning bit of news from Friday. And when the Chicago Bears cornerback was listed as “questionable” to play in the team’s Week 11 game against the Minnesota Vikings, it stopped me in my tracks. Could Chicago’s football team get some much-needed reinforcements in its secondary? In short, the answer is no.

Jaylon Johnson will not play in the Bears’ Week 11 game against the Minnesota Vikings. The team announced (via Twitter/X) that the two-time PRo Bowl cornerback has been downgraded to out.

When Will Jaylon Johnson return to the lineup?

Cornerback Jaylon Johnson has made one appearance (and played just 20 snaps) for the 2025 Chicago Bears. He spent the entirety of training camp on the non-football injury list, did not play in the preseason, and was unavailable to suit up for the Week 1 matchup between the Bears and Vikings because of injuries to his groin (which happened during offseason training) and calf (which popped up while trying to return from the groin injury). Johnson was placed on injured reserve after Week 2 and had surgery to repair the groin issue in September.

That Jaylon Johnson has been designated for a return from IR and that Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson expects him back before the year ends feels like a testamant to modern medicine and Jaylon’s work ethic. Unfortunately, his return isn’t happening in Week 11. But let’s not be sad about it. Instead, let’s turn that frown upside down by underscoring that imporance that the cornerback was practicing on Friday — albeit with limitations. This is an important bit of progress that we should not take for granted.

We’ll do some deeper diving into Jaylon Johnson’s potential return later in the week. But for now, let’s acknowledge the possibility that the Bears will exhaust each and every day of the 21-day practice window for their star cornerback. If that is how the cookie crumbles, Johnson would be slated to return to action in Week 14 against the Green Bay Packers. The last time we saw Jaylon in Green Bay, he was giving Packers backers a one-finger salute as Chicago’s footballl team pulled off a Week 18 upset win at Lambeau Field. So let’s keep that in mind as we follow Johnson’s possible return.
