For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Jack McCrae, a finalist at the 2025 Indianapolis Sectionals, has announced his verbal commitment to swim for The University of the South (Sewanee) in Tennessee beginning in the fall of 2026.
“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at Sewanee: The University of the South! First and foremost, I’d like to thank my family for always supporting me and believing in me. Another huge thank you to Coach Randy Erlenbach, Chuck Batchelor, Ben Keast and Larry Lee for pushing me to be my best in and out of the pool, as well as to Coach Mark Fino for giving me this opportunity. Lastly, I’d like to thank god for blessing me with this incredible opportunity. Can’t wait to see what the future holds, GO TIGERS!”
The South Carolina native is currently a senior at South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, where he has been a member of the boys’ varsity swim team all four years. McCrae also trains year-round with SwimMAC Carolina, based just across the state border in Charlotte, North Carolina, and specializes primarily in mid-distance and distance freestyle.
McCrae turned in two lifetime best performances at the Winter Junior Championship East in December. He placed 46th in the 1650 free in a best time of 15:52.24, knocking an impressive 47 seconds off his previous best time (16:39.32) from 2023. McCrae also shaved about two-and-a-half seconds off of his personal best in the 500 free, finishing 79th in 4:34.79, in addition to posting a season-best time of 1:43.87 in the 200 free.
At the Indianapolis Sectionals (LCM) in March, McCrae enjoyed a series of strong performances, posting season-best times in each of his races. He placed 11th in the 800 free (8:43.94), 16th in the 1500 free (16:42.63), 26th in the 400 free (4:09.66) and 52nd in the 200 free (1:59.34). He also helped his team to an 8th-place finish in the 800 free relay, splitting 2:02.42 as the third leg.
In addition to his success on the club circuit, McCrae is a four-time South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) 4A champion in the 500 free, having won the event every year starting as a freshman. The 2025 SCHSL 4A Championship in October saw McCrae defend his title in the 500 free with a time of 4:41.21, prevailing by almost seven seconds, after claiming the runner-up spot in the 200 free in 1:43.65.

Based on the results from last season’s championship, McCrae would have landed in the ‘A’ final in the 200 free and 500 free and the ‘B’ final in the 100 free. Notably, his top times would have been good enough for the runner-up spot in both the 500 free and 1650 free, setting him up to be a key contributor right from the start.
McCrae is currently set to be joined by Jackson Fowler from Florida next fall, who primarily specializes in the shorter distances of free, back, breast and IM.
