2025 Spanish Short Course Championships

November 13-16, 2025 Piscina Nova de l’Escullera, Barcelona SCM (25 meters) Prelims – 10:00 CET/4:00 EST. Finals – 6:00 CET/12:00 EST Meet Central Live Results and Start Lists Psych Sheet (11/01/25) Lublin 2025 Qualification Criteria/SwimSwam Preview

Night two of the Spanish Short Course Championships was a big one for many top women’s mid and long distance swimmers.

We saw two races that came down to the wire in the women’s 400 IM as well as the 1500 free.

In the former, which kicked off the night, Alba Vazquez got her hand on the wall first in 4:33.22, edging out Paula Gonzalez (4:33.68) and Emma Carrasco (4:33.81). Vazquez and Gonzalez punched their tickets to 2025 Short Course Euros in Lublin with this swim, with Carrasco an arms’ reach out. For Vazquez, this swim likely came as a relief after missing the team in the 200 breaststroke by a tenth last night.

Later on in the session, Angela Martinez and Maria de Valdes put on a show for the Barcelona crowd in the mile, flipping dead even to the hundredth at 1475 meters. Martinez had a little more in the tank on the final lap, touching 15:57.65 to de Valdes’ 15:57.78. They rank 7th and 8th globally and 3rd and 4th among Europeans headed into Lublin.

Also entering the world top ten was Singapore worlds semifinalist Laura Cabanes in the 200 butterfly. The 19-year-old dominated the field with a 2:05.70, cutting over a second off her 2:06.91 previous best time from Short Course Worlds last year. With this outing, Cabanes places herself squarely in the Lublin medal conversation, ranking 3rd in the world among Europeans and eighth overall.

On the men’s side of competition, Eudald Tarrats stood out as a top performer. Representing C.N. Sabadell, Tarrats pulled off a wire-to-wire win in the 100 breaststroke, stopping the clock in 57.48. With this time, Tarrats met the Lublin qualification standards and chopped an incredible 1.4 seconds off his entry time.

The Spanish men found two more Lublin qualifiers last in the 200 fly. During the preliminaries, Miguel Martinez secured his spot with a 1:53.06 effort in the prelims. In the finals, Martinez fell to third, while event champion Arbidel Gonzalez turned in a 1:52.95 to put himself on the international team. Gonzalez also won the 100 fly last night, making him and Vazquez the only double winners of the meet thus far.

The country’s biggest rising star, 17-year-old Luca Hoek, placed second in the 50 free with a 21.57. He already qualified for Euros based on his gold medal in the event at the European Junior Championships this summer.
