Spectrum Aquatics Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming: 11/13/2025

    Finola Whelehan, 14, TAC Titans (NC): Whelehan had an incredible performance at the TAC Titans Big Southern Classic last weekend, going eight-for-eight in best times while moving into the top 75 all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group in five of them. Her top swim came in the 200 free, where Whelehan dropped a time of 1:45.87 to rank 7th all-time in the 13-14 age group and 1st this season. Coming into the meet, her previous best stood at 1:49.50, and she had lowered that to 1:49.16 in the prelims before going all the way down into 1:45 territory in the final. The TAC Titan member also moved to 21st all-time in the 13-14 age group in the 100 back (53.19), 48th in the 400 IM (4:15.70), tied for 66th in the 100 fly (54.15) and 74th in the 200 back (1:57.62), ranking either 1st or 2nd in the age group this season in all of them. Additionally, she sets bests in the 100 free (50.26), 200 fly (2:01.12) and 200 IM (2:02.14), ranking 2nd, 2nd and 5th this season, respectively.

    Tommy Jiang, 14, DART Swimming (SN): Jiang climbed into the top 100 all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group in three events at last weekend’s Folsom Classic in California, picking up a trio of victories in the 200 free, 100 fly and 200 fly. In the 100 fly, his time of 49.74 ranks him 56th all-time, while he also moves to 67th all-time in the 200 fly (1:51.17) and 81st 200 free (1:40.75). He also ranks 1st among 13-14 boys in all three events this season.

    Katherine McCrea, 12, Aquazot Swim Club (CA): McCrea set a trio of lifetime bests at the RMDA Legends of Coaching meet last weekend in La Mirada, two of which shot her up to the top of the girls’ 11-12 rankings this season. The Aquazot Swim Club product set bests of 24.65 in the 50 free and 52.73 in the 100 free, both ranking her 1st this season among 11-12 girls. She also went 58.78 in the 100 fly, good for 6th in the country this season, and added 24.20/24.22 50 free splits in the relays.

    Kyle Weng, 12, Brea Aquatics (CA): Weng, also racing at the RMDA Legends of Coaching meet, set a pair of notable best times in the butterfly events. The Brea Aquatics product clocked 53.08 in the 100 fly, improving on his previous best of 53.92 to rank 9th all-time in the boys’ 11-12 age group and 2nd this season. He also went 2:00.65 in the 200 fly, knocking two seconds off his old PB of 2:02.64 to rank 27th all-time in the age group and 1st this season.

    Olivia Covey, 9, Bellevue Club Swim Team (PN): Covey set best times in every event she raced at the THSC November Open last weekend in Beaverton, Ore., cracking the top 10 in the girls’ 10 & under age group in three races despite still being nine. Covey clocked 2:09.44 in the 200 free to rank 7th among 10 & under girls this season, while she ranks 9th in both the 100 free (59.73) and 100 fly (1:07.21), also ranking 1st among nine-year-olds this season in all three. Covery also moved to 11th this season in the 50 fly (29.91), 17th in the 200 IM (2:29.85) and 19th in the 500 free (5:53.74) among 10 & under girls, also ranking 2nd among nine-year-olds in all three.
