SAN JOSE — A driver hit and killed a pedestrian early Friday morning in San Jose, police said.

An initial investigation determined a man was driving a 2006 Toyota pickup truck westbound on West San Carlos Street when he hit a man crossing the roadway on foot, Hernandez said, adding that the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.
The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Hernandez said.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the pedestrian’s identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
The death marks the city’s 34th traffic fatality of the year. San Jose had recorded 44 deaths at the same point in 2024.
