Getting Healthy, Coby White’s Shooting, Wanting Even More Matas Buzelis, and Other Bulls Bullets

I think it’s fair to say the Chicago Bulls desperately needed this three-day break.

After three straight superstar-induced losses, the banged-up Bulls’ low morale led to easily the worst loss of the season in Detroit. It wasn’t the kind of game you simply scratch, but the one where you look yourself in the mirror and re-establish the non-negotiables. It’s up to Billy Donovan to use this break to ensure that not one ounce of buy-in was lost during their first taste of adversity.

Of course, this three-day break also comes at a great time for the injury report. Josh Giddey has missed the previous two games with an ankle injury. Questionable heading into both contests, the Bulls have seemingly been treating this as a day-by-day issue. That’s why it sure feels more likely than not that he will be able to suit up for their next road game in Utah on Sunday. As for Coby White, he continues to trend in the right direction. The guard recently practiced with the organization’s G League affiliate, and we have yet to hear of any setbacks that came from that workout. While he will presumably need at least a couple more games off, it sure feels like next week could be when we finally see him upgraded on the injury report. The Bulls play Denver, Portland, Miami, and Washington next week. The only potential issue for White and the Bulls is that their schedule is quite congested. While things will ease up in terms of difficulty, they have three back-to-back sets between now and the end of November. This includes Utah-Denver on Sunday and Monday, Miami and Washington next Friday and Saturday, as well as Charlotte and Indiana on Nov. 28 and 29. I already expect Coby White to be on a tight minutes restriction for a handful of games upon his return, but I wonder if the Bulls would go as far as to sit him out entirely in one of the latter two back-to-back situations. Considering how careful they have been with him thus far, I wouldn’t be surprised. Speaking of Coby White, the Bulls could really use his reliable three-point stroke. The team ranks Top 4 in efficiency over their first 11 games, but the volume has been down significantly. They are shooting only 34.2 attempts a night after chucking up 42.0 attempts per game last season. To be clear, they don’t need to return to last year’s ways, but White can help them find a happy medium. Their opponent has now knocked down more triples than them in three of their last four games. That’s undoubtedly played a role in their stumble. The forward recorded his first double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Aside from Dalen Terry (who played under 11 minutes), Buzelis was the only one who did not finish with a negative plus-minus. He had a couple of really confident drives to the rim that served as a great example of how dangerous his combination of athletic burst and length can be. Defenders have such a hard time contesting his shots at times, and he has such an impressive bag of finishing skills. To be honest, I would like to see the ball in Buzelis’ hands more down the stretch of these close games. I understand that it’s not always going to pay off, and we have seen a few costly turnovers at times this year. However, development remains the priority this season. And it’s not like Buzelis hasn’t been efficient. He is shooting 48.0 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from long range on career-high volume. The 21-year-old has easily been one of the NBA’s best sophomore scorers. Let him live and learn in crunch time!

    — Basketball University (@UofBasketball) November 13, 2025 The Utah Jazz were just rocked by the Atlanta Hawks, who have surged up the Eastern Conference ranks. Both Onyeka Okongwu and Jalen Johnson had career nights, which included a ridiculous 31-point, 18-rebound, and 14-assist triple-double from Johnson. Fortunately, the Bulls play the Jazz next. Unfortunately, they will see the Hawks twice in back-to-back games in December.

But when we consider the potential price tag, as well as all the health issues, it just doesn’t feel like a juice that is worth the squeeze.
