The 6-5 righty graduated from St. John’s last year. They scouted him at Tread Athletics where he was throwing 98 mph. Chose the Cubs over grad school!

The results weren’t particularly compelling, with walks a major issue. But you can see from that clip, this is a scouting play. Mettert has great velocity, good size, and a bit of funk in the arm angle. Good bones there to work with.
The Cubs clearly want a chance to work with a guy that has some extreme velocity potential, and you never know when something might click with an opportunity to train as a professional.
