Denver police shot and killed a man Friday morning after responding to reports of a burglary on the 3200 block of South Parker Road, said Police Chief Ron Thomas during a press conference.
Police responded after receiving a call just before 2 a.m. that a burglary was taking place at 3215 S. Parker Road, near the Advenir at French Quarter apartments. When officers arrived, they found a person inside some type of shed or storage facility, Thomas said.
When two officers ordered the suspect to come outside he appeared with a large object, which police thought was a knife,Thomas said. Officers asked the suspect to put the object down, which he initially did before grabbing it again and approaching police, he said.
Both officers then fired at the suspect, who was injured and taken to Swedish Medical Center, where he died, Thomas said.
Police have not yet identified the suspect, he said.

The shooting comes just days after the department released body-worn camera videos of two recent shootings involving Denver officers, including at a Maverik convenience store where police injured two clerks when they responded to a robbery.
