King Charles is celebrating a milestone this week: His birthday. On Friday, November 14, he turned 77 years old, and well wishes have been pouring in for the monarch — both from his fellow royals and from those who admire him.
In honor of the occasion, the royal family shared a new portrait of Charles on Instagram. In the photo, Charles poses in the gardens of his Gloucestershire home, Highgrove House.

How King Charles Celebrates His Birthday
Though Charles' birthday is November 14, he always formally celebrates his birthday in June with the Trooping the Colour parade — just like the monarchs who came before him.
According to Hello! magazine, the tradition dates back to 1748, though it wasn't formally made a summer activity until King Edward VII decided to keep it that way because of the nicer weather during his reign from 1901-1910. Like Charles, he was also born in November, so he was no stranger to how chilly it can be in London during that time of year.
During the parade, military soldiers and horses will march and display their flags, and the royals typically take it all in from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
