Bobby Bones' former Dancing With the Stars partner Sharna Burgess is speaking out about the "hurtful" comments Tom Bergeron made about his season 27 win. After hearing of Bones returning his Mirrorball, the former pro says she's heartbroken.
"It breaks my heart that my partner...sent his Mirrorball back to Dancing With the Stars because of the hate that he was getting," the 40-year-old said on her Sharna Burgess in the 4th Chair podcast.
Earlier this week, Andy Richter was eliminated from the competition, despite the many people who thought he would go on to become another shocking win. In an interview with Parade, Bergeron, 70, called Bones', 45, win the most shocking.
"It’s funny you’re asking about eliminations," Bergeron said. "The thing that shocked me most was a win. Bobby Bones."
Bones was viewed as one of the weaker dancers in his season. His win ultimately led to the implementation of the "Judge’s Save" from seasons 28-32.
In a reaction post, Bones criticized Bergeron for flipping the question just to criticize his win. Bergeron has since issued an apology.
Now, Burgess is reliving the negativity surrounding their controversial win.
"Back when we won, we went through some of that, and I certainly had my journey with how that win felt because of the negative feedback that we would get," she said on the podcast. "But now it seems everyone is getting it constantly. Even [Bones] is getting it now and we won six years ago."
Like Richter, Burgess wants DWTS fans to keep things positive. She concluded the episode with a plea: "Keep it kind, loving, and respectful."
She added: "Everyone is doing the best that they can. What you have control over is your voice and your votes. So use it wisely and kindly."
