A volunteer medical campaign specializing in pediatric surgery will be launched at al-Mujtahid Hospital in Damascus (the Syrian capital) on 23 November and will continue until 27 of the same month.
The campaign will be carried out by Saudi medical teams, supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, in cooperation with Alameen Humanitarian Organization and under the auspices of the Syrian Ministry of Health, as part of its ongoing volunteer medical program.
Sharif Murad, Public Relations Officer at Alameen, told Enab Baladi that this is the tenth campaign of its kind in this specialty during the current year. Between 60 and 80 children suffering from complex surgical conditions requiring specialized intervention are expected to benefit.
The Syrian Health Ministry announced via its official channels on Wednesday, 12 November, that the campaign targets children from all Syrian governorates and covers general pediatric surgery and pediatric urology.
Admission and registration mechanism
The registration period runs from 11 to 27 November, and beneficiaries will be selected from the lists of children registered via the link previously shared on the Health Ministry and Alameen platforms, in addition to children who visited the pediatric surgery department at al-Mujtahid Hospital and registered their details directly.
Murad explained that a specialized medical committee will assess the cases, giving priority to critical conditions that require urgent surgical intervention. He noted that organizing this campaign in Damascus comes within Alameen’s efforts to achieve a set of goals, most notably:
Providing specialized care to patients free of charge. Supporting local medical staff through the exchange of expertise. Promoting a culture of joint medical work in crisis settings through volunteer initiatives grounded in knowledge and complementarity.Five projects in one week
During the last week of October, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center implemented five different volunteer medical projects in Syria.
These campaigns were carried out in Damascus under the supervision of the Syrian Ministry of Health and with funding from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, as part of the Saudi “Amal” (Hope) Volunteer Program and in cooperation with Alameen Humanitarian Organization, according to Murad.
He said the campaign covered several medical specialties, including:
Cardiac surgery and catheterization. Orthopedic and joint surgery. Reconstructive surgery and congenital deformities. Pediatric surgery. In addition to the “Noor Saudi” project to combat blindness, remove cataracts, and treat the diseases that cause them.According to Murad, 67 volunteers and specialists from various medical fields took part in implementing these initiatives.
The volunteer medical team from the center examined 5,300 individuals, the Saudi Press Agency reported, and 710 prescription glasses were distributed.
A total of 473 eye surgeries were performed, along with 106 operations for children, 117 surgeries in the field of deformities and plastic surgery, 63 orthopedic and joint operations, 51 open-heart surgeries, and 54 therapeutic catheterizations.
These procedures fall within the framework of Saudi Arabia’s voluntary medical programs and projects delivered to support vulnerable and affected groups among the Syrian population through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.
