Our water heater died a couple weeks ago, so we had to get it replaced. It was incredibly old, so we kinda felt fortunate to have gotten as much run out of it as we did. The new one is working fine – or at least, it was, until this morning when I discovered the ever-expanding pool of water coming from it in our basement. So that’s been a healthy portion of my morning.
There wasn’t much suspense with the Cy Young Awards, with Tarik Skubal almost winning unanimously, and Paul Skenes winning unanimously. Each was super obviously deserving, and each won handily.Tarik Skubal and Paul Skenes showed out all season! ⭐ pic.twitter.com/ucVKiypfRu

— MLB (@MLB) November 13, 2025 The real mystery is whether Skubal will be a Tiger come Opening Day, and whether Skenes will be a Pirate come midseason. For clubs that aren’t going to commit $300 or $400 million to a pitcher long-term, there’s a whole lot of value available if they go the trade route, as lamentable as it might be. Ken Rosenthal discusses Shane Bieber’s curious option decision, and the sense he gets from execs in Las Vegas is the same as the sense from all of us watching on the outside. In short, no one understands the decision (without more information):"While we all would love to paint this as an altruistic act of loyalty, and maybe it is, I'm not so sure that's the case."Shane Bieber's decision to exercise his player option for 2026 remains a curious choice to many people, says @Ken_Rosenthal. pic.twitter.com/0zgyX5O6NI
— Foul Territory (@FoulTerritoryTV) November 12, 2025 I understand all the Blue Jays fans saying he’s just a great dude who loved Toronto and wanted to stay with the Blue Jays and on and on. Good, great, fine, maybe. But it was a $12 million decision, and guys in Bieber’s situation in recent years have received more like $18 to $22 million even if they WANT a mere one-year deal (which he didn’t necessarily have to take). Bieber’s decision is all the more confusing when you consider that some executives are predicting no players accept Qualifying Offers this year specifically because they won’t want to hit free agency again right before a lockout. (I could see that cutting both ways, though, because (1) you may not get paid fully during a lockout, and (2) a new CBA might transform the landscape for contracts in a way that benefits free agents.) Saw some talk about the best divisions in baseball, and, as usual, the NL Central never even approaches consideration. I’m not mad about it. I’m not saying I would actually argue that it is the best division right now. However, I feel I must note that the NL Central this season featured the team with the best record in baseball, also the 6th best record, and also half of the playoff teams in the National League. Not saying it’s the toughest division or whatever, but it never gets respect. That said, it’ll be interesting to see the shape of the Central next year. The Cubs are going to try to be in the same range, the Brewers figure to again be a 90+ win team, and the Reds will return their core. So are they three playoff teams again next year? Is that what the projections will say? Meanwhile, the Pirates are seemingly always on the cusp of becoming competitive if a few of their young bats would take a big step forward (unless they trade Skenes, of course), so I kinda always do have them in the back of my mind. But the Cardinals? Well, if they’re getting serious about deals like this, it’s gonna be a DEEP rebuild:Teams are calling.Cardinals are listening. Some matches are emerging.Cardinals All-Star Brendan Donovan could be most coveted hitter as trade talks spark t.co/4onWdHJoqf
