ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Friends and coworkers gathered to remember Quinton “Q” Wynn, a 30-year-old Bronx native who was shot and killed in a front yard on Jay Street in Rochester Saturday night.
“When I first heard the news, I was driving the RTS busses and just was in shock,” said Zeke Gross, a longtime friend of Wynn’s. “I end up finishing my route with the RTS busses. I told him I had to leave. It was just like stomach turning. Just unbelief.”
Gross and Wynn first met about 17 years ago when Wynn played basketball for Franklin High School. Despite initial differences, their friendship quickly turned into a strong bond.
Wynn leaves behind a son and two brothers that Gross says he was taking care of, as well as dozens of loved ones – including coworkers from his full-time job at L3 Harris and part-time job at clothing store DTLR.
“To know Quinton is to know this big, loving, gentle teddy bear,” said Farasa Brown, a coworker. “To know him for any sort of violence, that’s not the man he is. All he cared about was family, hanging out, working style. Fashion.”
Christy Williams, another coworker, added, “Quinton was with the company for almost 11 years coming up. So he will be truly missed and adored.”
The balloon release was a way for those who knew Wynn to honor his memory and find solace. “Us out here today to release these balloons is really us releasing our hearts, releasing our pain, letting God handle it all,” Gross said.
Rochester police reported that after the shooting, a man called 911 saying he was involved. He was detained and later released. The district attorney and police are working to determine if charges are appropriate.
