ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Small nonprofit groups working directly on the streets and sidewalks often struggle to access funding.
On Wednesday morning, Democratic state assembly members presented a $200,000 check to three umbrella groups. These funds will provide expert help to small nonprofits.
Anne Wilder, CEO of Coordinated Care Services Inc., said the expertise will cover areas like finance, human resources, marketing, and communications.
“They’re grassroots, they’re often just a few people literally on the ground whether it’s youth interrupters, whether it’s food pantries,” said Sarah Clark, a New York State Assembly member.
Democratic state assembly members said due to smaller budget size and limited human resources, many of these nonprofits have had to go without hiring staff with high levels of experience and expertise.
They say for this reason, they decided to work together to find a solution. The agencies said this starter money should initially help about 10 to 15 small nonprofits.
