Schools in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago went into “secure” status Wednesday afternoon as police in the area searched the area for a man involved in an incident in Naperville, authorities said.
Around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Schaumburg police responded to the area of Meacham Road and Williamsburg Drive in Schaumburg to assist Naperville police with a search for a “person involved in an incident in Naperville” who they believed was on the border of Schaumburg and Elk Grove Village.
“There was a possible medical issue and for safety reasons, a large police response occurred to locate the person quickly,” the Village of Schaumburg said in a statement on social media.
Some schools in the area of the search went into “secure” status, including Lincoln Prairie Elementary school located at 500 Harvest Gate Road in Lake in the Hills.
A person is in custody of Naperville police, authorities said.
After the person was placed into custody, schools were notified the “secure” status was no longer necessary.
