Michael Duarte, the popular TikTok and Instagram food influencer known as @FoodWithBearHands, has died at 36 following what his family called a “horrible incident.”
Known for his recipes, from Cajun surf and turf ramen to steak bites and pulled pork, Duarte built an online following of more than 800,000 fans on each platform. His sudden death on Saturday, November 8, in Texas has left the online culinary community heartbroken.
A GoFundMe page set up to support Duarte’s family confirmed that he died just three days after celebrating his ninth wedding anniversary with his wife, Jessica.
“The world may know him as ‘FoodwithBearHands,’ but to us, he was a loving husband, father, brother, and a great friend to many,” the description reads. The couple shares a 6-year-old daughter, Oakley.
The page also discusses the financial and emotional strain following Duarte’s sudden death. “This heartbreak came without warning, leaving Jessica to incur the expense of bringing him back home to California and covering funeral expenses.”
Continuing, “During this time, and in the months/years ahead, we want to make sure that Jessica and Oakley are taken care of as Michael would have wanted them to be. Your support would bring comfort, stability, and a reminder that they are not carrying this weight alone.”

On Sunday, November 9, Duarte’s widow Jessica shared a touching tribute on Instagram. “It’s been 24 hours since my world came crashing down. I’m numb, angry, depressed. Words can’t describe this kind of pain. I never thought I would be writing this,” she wrote.
“To the world you were foodwithbearhands but to us you were a loving husband and father. You didn’t deserve this. I will love you forever and I will be strong for our daughter and I know how much you loved us. If everyone can stop and please pray for our family. To my husband I will miss you…until we meet again.”
Fans have been sending an outpouring of love and support for Jessica and Oakley. Many left heartfelt messages, such as, “Jess and Oakley, you have an army of people who love you and will be here for you while you walk through this unfathomable tragedy.”
Others shared similarly compassionate words, “Sending you so much love and prayers of strength. A third added, “I’m so so sorry for your loss to your family. i did not know Michael in person, but he was always so so supportive and so nice to the foodie community.”
