HGTV Couple Admits They Laughed When They Learned Their Hit Show Was Canceled

HGTV couple Egypt Sherrodand Mike Jackson discussed the cancellation of their beloved series, Married to Real Estate, which premiered in 2022.

While speaking to People magazine in October 2025, Sherrod and her husband noted that they were told their show wasn't going to get more episodes after its 4th season in June 2025. Sherrod and Jackson, explained they received the call about Married to Real Estate's cancellation right after a Mediterranean vacation. Sherrod told the publication that she and Jackson ended up laughing about the situation because they discovered the removal of their production team from past seasons while they were visiting Costa Rica in 2024. "We came back on this amazing high and I lie to you not, we were still at the airport loading our bags in our car when management and the agency called us to tell us about the show," recalled Sherrod, who owns Indigo Road Realty, while speaking to People. "It was insane. But, literally, Mike and I looked at each other and burst out laughing because it was like, 'What are the chances of us coming back from vacation the second time and getting this kind of news?'"

She clarified that while she and her husband made jokes about their renovation series ending, she still felt disappointed about the situation. In addition, Jackson and Sherrod suggested that there were some indications that their show wasn't a priority while filming Season 4, which premiered in March 2025.

"We weren't listened to and it felt like [we were] not necessarily respected the same. But they were all different players — not one single person from season 1, 2 or 3 was left," said Sherrod to the publication.

Jackson chimed in that "There were moments where you forgot, 'Wait, we're the executive producers.'

"We're like, 'Everyone has a say, but it's been kind of reversed.' It was like, 'Wait, isn't this our show, our business, our house, our kids, our story, our marriage?'" said Jackson while speaking to the publication.

In addition, the crew changes caused production to be prolonged.

"It threw us into dark weeks… That means production shuts down. For us, this is our business and our reputation," said Sherrod in the interview.

People magazine reported that HGTV shared a statement about Married to Real Estate ending.

“While it is never an easy conversation to share that a show has run its course and will be coming to an end, HGTV has the utmost respect for and enjoyed working with Egypt and Mike on Married to Real Estate for 4 seasons," read the statement.

TV Insider reported that other HGTV series, like Izzy Does It, Christina on the Coast, Bargain Block, The Flipping El Moussas, Farmhouse Fixer, and Battle on the Beach, also didn't get renewed in the summer of 2025.

Egypt Sherrod & Mike Jackson Teased Another Project

In the October 2025 People magazine interview, Sherrod said she and her husband don't have immediate plans to return to television. She said that "the reality is that linear television is starting to shrink."

"For us, being able to do Married to Real Estate was the full 360 of our family and our businesses," said Sherrod in the interview. "So we don't wanna go back to like a templated show just to say we're on TV. we just gonna sit still for a minute and either create, which is what's happening now, either create the next phase for us or just not come back to TV."

TV Insider reported that Sherrod and Jackson shared that she and her husband had a new project on the horizon in a September 2025 Instagram video. In the clip, Sherrod told her fans that she and her husband wanted to "show how grateful [they] are for all the years of support" from fans.

"We decided to do a give back," said Sherrod in the clip.

She said that fans can nominate someone they know to get a renovation from Sherrod and Jackson. She then shared that they intend to "air these beautiful, deserving designs on [their] YouTube channel."

"And at every 50,000 subscribers, every time we hit 50k, we’re gonna drop another episode of it. That means somebody else is getting a deserving design," continued Sherrod in the clip.

“Deserving Design Announcement!!! if you know someone truly deserving of a design pop up, nominate them at [email protected]. Then run and follow @egyptandmiketv on YouTube, instagram and Patreon," read the caption of the Instagram post.
