ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Our first snow is winding down, with many spots picking up at least a few inches of snow, some areas over a half foot where the lake snow was most persistent. A weak disturbance over the Great Lakes will kick up some lake enhanced snow showers, mainly west of Rochester Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Any additional accumulation will be minor, with another inch or two in parts of Orleans and Genesee Counties. Otherwise, snow showers change over to rain showers through the rest of Wednesday.
Thursday will remain a little unsettled, with lots of clouds and a few more passing showers with a front overhead. Friday will finally start to brighten up a little bit. Morning clouds or a lingering shower will give way to some limited afternoon clearing.
Saturday starts off with some sun, but we’ll see the clouds moving back up during the afternoon, with shower chances increasing late in the day ahead of our next storm system. This next storm will bring some rain to the area on Sunday, along with a breeze and falling temperatures late. Depending on the timing of the rain, this could potentially impact the Bills game in Orchard Park on Sunday.
A strong geomagnetic storm will likely bring the opportunity for the Northern Lights over the next few nights. In fact, there’s the chance of a fairly impressive display due to the strength of the storm. That being said, we’ll be stuck under quite a bit of cloud cover. So it may be difficult, if not impossible for us to see the aurora.
