Reba’ Star Makes Rare Red Carpet Appearance With a Cane After Health Challenges

It was a Reba family reunion during a recent red carpet event.

Reba McEntire, who played the beloved lead character in the family sitcom, attended the annual Paley Honors Gala at The Beverly Hilton on Nov. 10 alongside Melissa Peterman and Christopher Rich, who played Barbra Jean and Brock Hart, respectively. Running from 2001 to 2007, the sitcom followed Reba Hart as she navigated life next door to her ex-husband and his bubbly new wife, who was desperate to befriend her.

Rather than posing with his former Reba co-stars, who were pictured with the cast of Reba’s new NBC series, Happy’s Place, Rich walked the red carpet with his longtime wife, Eva Halina Rich, flashing a wide smile for photographers.

For the rare red carpet appearance, the 72-year-old actor donned black pants and a blazer with a black and white striped shirt underneath, as he walked assisted by a cane. Eva opted for a white spaghetti strap dress with white boots.

Rich previously reunited with his co-stars on Reba's new series, guest-starring in a season 1 episode alongside Peterman, where he portrayed Maverick, a tattoo artist who had suffered a stroke. It reunited Rich, Peterman, and McEntire for the first time since Reba.

It also marked Rich’s return to acting after he suffered a stroke in 2018, which resulted in traumatic brain injury.

He previously spoke about the lasting effects on his life, stating, "After my stroke and having a brain injury, it is like I got hit with an atomic bomb. So it all gets traumatized, and it is a hard reset."

“After I finally got out of the hospital, I was moving around again. Then I threw a bunch of blood clots and ended up in the hospital with lung embolisms and debris on my heart," he continued.

Despite everything he went through, and losing 50 pounds since the last time he was a regular on TV, he said he was "feeling really good," and sang the praises of his Reba costars for constantly encouraging him to go out with them even if he wasn't feeling up for it.

“They got me back out. They would invite me to parties and reunion things,” said Rich.

This past September, the cast, joined by Reba's fiancé Rex Linn, and their on-screen TV daughter, played by JoAnne Garcia, shared photos from a dinner that delighted fans and left them quite emotional.

As for his return to TV, Rich previously noted, “I’ve basically taken the last decade off. And if anyone was going to drag me out of the dark corner of the closet, it would be the redhead."?SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox?
