Stephen King Praises Fantastic New Novel Adaptation: Die Hard For Our Time

As even the most casual fan of his work is sure to know, Stephen King has had many, many, many different adaptations of his work released over the past several decades.

While some of these films and TV shows might have left fans of the author's work a tad disappointed, other adaptations have more than matched the acclaim of King's original novels and short stories.

    In this regard, King's latest adaptation, The Running Man, falls more so than into the latter category, thankfully.

    Based on King's 1982 novel of the same name, The Running Man follows an ordinary blue-collar worker (Glen Powell) forced to compete in a deadly televised competition where average contestants are relentlessly pursued by professional assassins.

    Though not quite as well-known as King's other, more prominent novels, this latest version of The Running Man has nevertheless earned consistently positive praise from critics and early viewers.

    Perhaps most interestingly, the author himself has given the movie his glowing seal of approval, complimenting the movie for its inventive story and unique action.

    "I've seen it and it's fantastic," King wrote on X. "DIE HARD for our time. A bipartisan thrill ride."

    As longtime followers of King's work likely recognize, the upcoming version of The Running Man is the second adaptation of King's dystopian novel. The original 1987 adaptation of the book starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Richard Dawson, although the finished film earned mixed reviews due to its lack of faithfulness to King's source material.

    In yet another positive review, the 78-year-old Schwarzenegger shared his own complimentary assessment of the new iteration of The Running Man (via Bloody Disgusting).

    Speaking with the film's star and director Edgar Wright, Schwarzenegger said, "“The only movie that I always wanted to have redone of my movies was Running Man. This one really upped it and did exactly that. Really fantastic. And the action was unbelievable and creative.”
