A north suburban Beach Park man who was shot last week in a murder-for-hire plot later died from his injuries, authorities said Monday.
Oscar Ochoa-Tello was shot on Wednesday morning while sitting inside his car outside his home along North Sheridan Road and Kings Way Drive. Ochoa-Tello was warming up his vehicle before going to work, Lake County sheriff’s officials said.
The 46-year-old died from his injuries on Saturday. Preliminary results showed he died from complications of multiple gunshot wounds, the Lake County Coroner’s Office said.
Following the shooting, sheriff’s detectives obtained surveillance footage and identified a suspicious vehicle that was captured on video driving slowly in the area. Law enforcement used a license plate reader to track down the vehicle and identify its owner.
The owner, Cristian N. Ruval-Cavatorres, 28, of Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, was taken into custody by police in the Wisconsin town. Lake County detectives determined he was responsible for the shooting and learned he was hired to shoot and kill the victim, authorities stated.
Police executed a search warrant and recovered the gun believed to have been used in the shooting and the phone Ruval-Cavatorres likely used to communicate with the person who hired him, sheriff’s officials said.
The person accused of hiring Ruval-Cavatorres was arrested on Thursday afternoon in North Chicago, police said. As of Monday, that individual had yet to be identified.
Ruval-Cavatorres was charged with attempt first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
