ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We’ve all seen our first flakes of the season, and some of will see a bit more. The area-wide snow transitions over to more localized lake effect snow into Tuesday morning. This may have an impact on the morning commute, so we’re keeping the Yellow Alert up through at least Tuesday morning. Overall, accumulations will be minor, on the order of an inch or two for most. But as is typical with lake effect, there will be localized locations with up to 6″ of snow through Tuesday evening, most of which falls into early Tuesday.
The morning commute may be slick, with temperatures in the 20s and areas of snow, along with a blustery wind. Snow tapers as we head into the afternoon, at which point we’ll be able to drop that Yellow Alert. In fact, the evening commute should be fine. Lake effect snow is always a fickle forecast, so stay with the First Alert Weather Team for any updates.
Wednesday may see a few more lake snow showers early, and west of Rochester as the wind begins to shift out of the southwest. It’ll turn just mild enough for some rain showers to return by the afternoon. Thursday may see a few more passing lake rain showers, with dry weather returning on Friday.
The weekend will be another split one. Saturday should be dry, but cool with highs in the lower 40s and limited sunshine. But our next storm system arrives for Sunday, bringing another round of rain, before a shot of somewhat cooler air to start next week.
