Days of Our Lives Icon, 82, Celebrates Cancer Remission

An iconic soap opera star just shared great news with her fans. Days of Our Lives star Suzanne Rogers, 82, has played Maggie Horton for over 50 years. She just revealed that she is currently in remission after receiving a cancer diagnosis.

Rogers talked with People about the latest regarding her health. She was diagnosed with colorectal cancer over the summer, but just revealed it publicly to Days of Our Lives fans on October 30.

The iconic soap star told People, "I'm feeling so much better." Rogers admitted, "My summer was rough. I had cancer removed, radiation, that was tough."

Luckily, she noted, she never lost her hair. She was diagnosed with stage 2 colorectal cancer, and she says she is now "in remission." She did undergo chemotherapy and radiation, but she didn't experience the harshest side effects that are common with those intensive treatments.

The experience has changed her perspective, she admitted. "I don't worry about the small things," Rogers noted. She continued, "It's not worth it. I was rushing here, and I went, 'Wait a minute. You're not going anywhere.'"

The Days of Our Lives star leaned on her priest and her family for support as she navigated her diagnosis.

The day before starting treatments, she told her priest about her diagnosis. He took her to the altar at their church and anointed her, a special church ritual believed to promote healing and well-being. "I felt that that's what helped me through," Rogers shared.

She is still recovering and noted she's at "about 70% right now." For now, "I'm just basically letting things happen. I'm not making anything happen."

Rogers previously told TV Insider that she pursued a check-up over the summer when she felt that something "wasn't quite right." She admitted, "It was all a shock." She finished filming Days of Our Lives on June 13, and her cancer treatments began days later.

"It was radiation every day and chemo every day for six weeks, and it was tough," Rogers explained.
