The great English bard wrote Twelfth Night as part of the closing festivities to the Christmas season (think the last night of the "12 Days of Christmas"). The story contains mistaken identity, romance, and comedy — all the elements we love about a rom-com! If you live in New York City, you may have been lucky enough to catch a free performance of Shakespeare in the Park over the years. This past summer, The Public Theater put on Twelfth Night with a star-studded cast, and PBS Great Performances was there to capture it for all the world to see.

After a shipwreck, twins Viola and Sebastian are separated, and Viola disguises herself as a man named Cesario to serve Duke Orsino. The plot becomes complicated when Olivia, the woman Orsino loves, falls for Cesario, while Viola falls for Orsino. Meanwhile, a subplot involves Olivia's household members tricking her steward, Malvolio, into making a fool of himself.
The Shakespearean comedy of mistaken identity tells the romantic misadventures of twins Sebastian and Viola after they survive a shipwreck, including revenge plots and tricks of love. Recorded this summer at the newly renovated Delacorte Theater in Central Park, the production is directed by Tony Award nominee Saheem Ali.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Andrew Aguecheek)
Ferguson is best known for his portrayal of Mitchell Pritchett on Modern Family. He also originated the role of Leaf Coneybear in the Broadway cast of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in 2006.He has previously appeared in several Shakespeare in the Park productions, including A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Merchant of Venice, The Tempest, and A Winter's Tale.
Lupita Nyong'o is best known for her roles in Us, Black Panther, and 12 Years a Slave, the latter of which earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Junior Nyong’o (Sebastian)
Junior Nyong'o is the younger brother of Lupita Nyong'o. He is a musician and DJ. While he only has a handful of acting credits to his name, Nyong'o most famous role was being part of Ellen DeGeneres' infamous selfie pic at the 2014 Academy Awards which was tweeted and then retweeted so many times it caused a short outage on the X platform (then known as Twitter).
Oh is best known for her roles in Arliss, Grey's Anatomy, and Killing Eve. One of her first films was Double Happiness. She had a supporting opposite Paul Giamatti in Sideways, directed by her then-husband, Alexander Payne. Her other credits include The Chair, Raya and the Last Dragon, and Turning Red.

Daphne Rubin-Vega (Maria)
Rubin-Vega originated the role of Mimi Marquez in Rent. She did not reprise the role in the film version as most of the cast did as she was pregnant at the time of filming. She has two Tony nominations - one for Rent and the other for her role in Anna in the Tropics. Her previous credits include Katy Keene, New Amsterdam, and Only Murders in the Building. She currently voices Carmilla Carmine in Hazbin Hotel.

The cast also features John Ellison Conlee (Sir Toby Belch), b (Antonio), Khris Davis (Orsino), Ariyan Kassam (Curio), Moses Sumney (Feste), Kapil Talwalkar (Fabian), and Joe Tapper (Sea Captain). The ensemble includes Dario Alvarez, Jania Rose Jallow, Valentino Musumeci, Precious Omigie, Chinna Palmer, Nathan M. Ramsey, Jasmine Sharma, Julian Tushabe, Adrian Villegas, Ada Westfall, and Mia Wurgaft.
